Welcome to Bordeaux

Ranked among the top universities in France, the University of Bordeaux is renowned for the quality of its academic courses and research. The University of Bordeaux was newly established on the 1st of January 2014, following the merger of three universities: Université Bordeaux 1 Sciences et Technologies, Université Bordeaux Segalen and Université Montesquieu Bordeaux IV.

The field of research is a driving force of the University of Bordeaux. The excellence of its competencies in all scientific fields (Science & Technology, Life & Health, Social & Human) was recognised in July 2011 when the university was awarded with the “Initiative of Excellence”. This award consists of an endowment of EUR 700 m to support the growth and development of research. The university welcomes almost 2,000 PhD students, currently has 280 joint thesis (co-tutelle) agreements running, boasts 18 international associated laboratories and much more. Read more.
